Maybe we’ll add some annuals for seasonal pops of color, and tidy up your pathways to give everything a fresh feel. It’s all about making your space look new and vibrant again!

How do I start my own ornamental garden?

Starting your own ornamental garden begins with figuring out the vibe you want. Are you into lush, colorful flowers, or something simpler and more serene? Once you’ve got a vision, assess your space’s sunlight, soil, and moisture. From there, we’ll guide you to choose the best plants that’ll thrive in your conditions, creating a garden that’s uniquely yours!

Plant Selection

What are easy-care ornamental plants for Seattle?

You don't have to pay all at once. We can establish a payment schedule that aligns with your project milestones. This could include an initial deposit, progress payments, and a final payment upon project completion.

What are the best low-maintenance native plants for Seattle?

For a sustainable garden that’s both beautiful and low-maintenance, native plants are the way to go. Try Beach Strawberry, Evergreen Huckleberry, and Vine Maple. They thrive in Seattle’s climate, need little care, and are perfect for supporting local wildlife, too!

Which non-native plants work well in Seattle gardens?

Non-natives like Hydrangeas, Peonies, and Japanese Maples are great choices for Seattle gardens. They add gorgeous color, texture, and structure while still thriving in our climate. If you love the look, go for it!

Which native plants thrive in shady areas?

Have a shady spot in your garden? There are plenty of native plants that’ll love it! Try Wild Ginger, Solomon’s Seal, Sword Fern, and Vine Maple. These plants grow beautifully in low-light spaces, making them perfect for those darker corners.

What native plants attract pollinators in shady areas?

Help our local bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds by adding native plants that thrive in the shade, like Coral Bells, Columbine, Woodland Phlox, and Astilbe. These beauties will bring all sorts of pollinators to your garden, making it more lively and full of nature!

Seasonal Care

How can I ensure continuous blooms from May to September in a shady garden?

To keep your shady garden blooming all season, choose plants that flower at different times, like Astilbe (early summer), Coral Bells (late spring to summer), and Columbine (spring). This way, you’ll have beautiful blooms from early spring all the way into fall!

What are effective pruning techniques for promoting blooms in shady gardens?

Regular pruning helps encourage more blooms. Try techniques like the Chelsea chop (fun name, right?), selective pruning, and deadheading to remove spent flowers. This keeps your plants looking fresh and ready to bloom even more!

What are the easiest shade annuals to care for?

If your garden’s on the shady side, don’t worry! There are plenty of easy-care annuals that thrive in low light. Impatiens, Begonias, and Lobelia are all great choices, and they’ll brighten up any dark corner with their colorful blooms.

What are the best shrubs for a cottage garden in Seattle?

For that perfect cottage garden look, try evergreen shrubs like Pieris japonica and Daphne, or deciduous shrubs like Spiraea and Serviceberry. These plants add structure and beauty, giving your garden a timeless, charming feel year-round.

Which flowering shrubs are deer-resistant in Seattle?

Keep the deer away with shrubs like Forsythia, Cinquefoil, Little Darling® Lilac, and Bluebeard. These plants are beautiful, but tough enough to keep the deer at bay—so you get the blooms, not the hungry wildlife!

Fertilization & Care

What is the best fertilization schedule for my garden?

To keep your garden thriving, feed your plants regularly with a balanced fertilizer (like 10-10-10). Early spring (March-April), mid-summer (June-July), and fall (August-September) are the best times to fertilize, helping your plants stay strong and healthy all year long.

Raised Beds for Veggie Gardening

Why should I use raised beds for veggie gardening?

Raised beds (especially those 20-24” high) are a total game-changer! They provide excellent drainage, prevent soil compaction, and warm up faster in spring, which means you can start planting earlier. Plus, they reduce back strain—no more bending down all the time!

What’s the best soil mix for raised veggie beds, and which veggies grow best?

For healthy, thriving veggies, use a soil mix that’s light and well-draining: 60% topsoil, 30% compost, and 10% organic matter. Raised beds are perfect for tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, carrots, zucchini, and herbs like basil and thyme. Root veggies like carrots and beets thrive, too, thanks to the loose, well-drained soil!

How do I start a raised bed veggie garden in Seattle?

First, find a sunny spot—veggies need at least 6-8 hours of sunlight a day! Then, build or buy your raised bed and fill it with your soil mix. Start with easy veggies like leafy greens (spinach, lettuce), tomatoes, and beans. The best part? Raised beds warm up faster, so you can plant earlier and enjoy a longer growing season, even in Seattle’s cooler weather.
